Dragons on Twitter

Dan MatthewsThe business credentials of Twitter.com as a networking tool appeared confirmed yesterday as four out of five Dragons’ Den investors joined the website.

All the investors, less Hamilton Bradshaw boss James Caan, piled on to the site at once before exchanging a few cheeky messages.Twitter for business

If – and it’s not confirmed – these are indeed the ‘real’ Dragons, then its possible a marketing wonk at the Beeb instructed them to get involved. Even with big BBC budgets, a little free help from Twitter apparently goes a long way.

Twitter is a social networking website that allows users to post short 'status updates' or 'micro-blogs'.

The site's increasing popularity has encouraged a string of famous faces to join in such as Stephen Fry, Jonathan Ross and ex-England rugby captain Will Carling.

Here’s a selection of the Dragons' thoughts so far:

Deborah Meaden: “Duncan, you know full well that insider trading is illegal. Besides I hear the owner is down to his last £310 million, oh what a struggle.”

Duncan Bannatyne: “Deborah ,tell him to put your money into quality blue stock. A little bird tells me that Bannatynes is a safe bet, lol.”

Theo Paphitis: “Oi Duncan, are you trying to tempt my tv wife? She won't gamble our kids inheritance on some fly by night outfit.”

So far, Bannatyne is the most prolific tweeter with four posts. Deborah is second with three, then Theo and Peter bringing up the rear.

You have to wonder how much time the Dragons can devote to Twitter. Not a lot is my guess; but they could follow Richard Branson’s example and employ a ghost writer to do it for them.
